Opino

So this is the start of today's walk got to see the sun rise. It was 6:20 a.m. when we left and 11:10 a.m. when we got here.   It was a 19km day so it was one of the easiest ones so far.

Lots of Pilgrims on the trail today. I was a little worried about getting a room.

The 2 girls on horse back passed us this morning again.    I didn't ask how far they were going today.

Only 30km to go.

I am always surprised how many pictures are left on the trail.    This one looks like an old picture but it has not been here that long.

Look at this tunnel.   It was just overgrown trees covering the trail.

Another grain house.

In some of the small towns the trail is just between two houses with walls on ether side.

Some of the towns today were pretty run down, not many people left.   The buildings were falling down

Another stream.  The farmer is waiting for us to cross.

Same picture looking back

This guy was galloping the camino.

This grandfather is walking with his grandson.    I thought the boy was about 6 but he was 8

A lot more eucalyptus today

And another big milestone.   Only 25km to go.

There was even some sheep on the trail today

Look!   One of the grain buildings actually has corn in it

And a flag on the way

An old water fountain

more eucalyptus

The 20km milestone

This is the town where we are staying.   There are a lot of empty buildings, 2 Hostels and 1 restaurant.

The busy main street

My room.  It has a kitchen, but there are no stores for 2.5k.    I guess  I wont be using it.

  3. Thank you for posting the pics. They are wonderful!

You are nearly at Santiago so it's suggestion time. Use them, or ignore them. Ideas are meant to be shared. Their use or not is strictly an individual choice.

Santiago is a great place to spend a few days. There is just so much to see. It's a very old city. Everyone comes out for their evening paseos, (strolls, walk and talk). Meals are eaten late, and tapas bars are plentiful. The streets have groups of tunas... no not fish.. tune singers. They wear colourful costumes and play old music while often dancing, flirting shamelessly with women. Shells adorn everything, everywhere. Be sure to try the special tarts. The local tourist office is a great resource. Stay in the old city, not the new.

You said you were going to the end of the earth. I'm not sure from where you are going to fly home, but if it's Madrid, I have a suggested path for you:

Take the bus or train across the north along the sea. Head to Santiana del Mar. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and so easy to get to. It's fascinating.

Near there are the Altamira caves which are the oldest discovered in EU.

From there you can get a train in Santander to Salamanca.

Salamanca is another UNESCO site and is half way to Madrid. It's almost as much fun, and as interesting as Santiago. It's another great place to stay a couple of days and to wander in the evenings with the locals and tourists. If you decide to go by way of there, be sure to sit in the Grand Plaza and have a drink or a meal. From Salamanca it is easy to get to Madrid.

I've written far more than I likely should have, but I did want you to have the information to consider, and to think about as a great way to end your Camino. It would be a shame to have been so close to ancient sites and to not have seen them, especially when they are on your path and you said you liked old buildings.

Enjoy your last few days on the walk. Whichever path you choose, Buen Camino!

    1. Hey Jennifer. Wow you are right on my heels so close. I am leaving Monday morning for Fisterra. Are you going out there. I might spend a couple of days there unless it sucks out there. Then I will be back here to decide where next.
